Measuring Ocean Value

The value of the ocean is gauged by statistics, GDP, and ocean economics. In this episode of WOR, Peter Neill argues that we must measure the ocean's value not simply by what we can take from it, but also by what may be gained in spiritual worth by leaving resources in the name of ocean health. Why can we not have both -- economic gain coupled with a spiritual ethic for our relationship to the ocean so that we might not compromise the resources of the sea?

Peter Neill, Director of the W2O and host of World Ocean Radio, provides coverage of a broad spectrum of ocean issues from science and education to advocacy and exemplary projects. World Ocean Radio, a project of the World Ocean Observatory, is a weekly series of five minute audio essays available for syndicated use at no cost by community radio stations worldwide.
